Our federal riding of Kanata-Carleton is affected by the redistribution of federal ridings announced by Elections Canada in September. This process takes place every 10 years. The new boundaries will take effect for an election called after Apr 22, 2024 (hey, that’s Earth Day!). It will only affect the federal ridings for now.
The current federal riding Kanata-Carleton is being split up approximately as follows:
Most of West-Carleton will become part of the federal riding of Carleton.
Kanata (north and south) will form the core of a new riding named Kanata, which will also include Bells Corners (currently in the riding of Nepean).
The image below shows the old and new federal boundaries as follows:
The black lines show the current riding of Kanata-Carleton and its neighbours.
The blue-green lines show the new riding boundaries following redistribution.

This blog post is only intended to introduce the topic - please see Elections Canada for the latest information on redistribution.
Recently, Ontario provincial ridings have followed the same boundaries as the federal ridings, but this is not legislated nor automatic. The current provincial government will decide when and how it will implement boundary changes.
