Green Party Spring Bike Ride

  • Starting from Fit4Less Gym 100 Michael Cowpland Drive Kanata, ON, K2M 1P6 Canada (map)

Join local Greens for a ride from South Kanata to Bells Corners.  We’ve planned three route options to Kichesippi Beer and K Brew House. Or join us midway. After a break in Bells Corners, we’ll all return to South Kanata on the TransCanada Trail (or follow your nose to wherever your travels take you).

The rain date is Sunday, May 26.

We’ll meet in the large parking lot at the southwest corner of Eagleson Rd and Michael Copeland Dr, in front of the Fit4Less gym. We have three routes planned depending on your time, ability and ambition (see maps below):

  • Level 1: 10:30 am (The Wicker Basket Cruisers: about 5 km each way; total distance 10 km): Ride directly along the Trans Canada Trail headed east through the Greenbelt. We’ll cross the old rail bridge over Robertson Road, then double-back under the bridge to reach Kichessippi Beer (2265 Robertson Rd). Estimated time of 20 mins each way.

  • Level 2: 10am (The Average Keeners: about 16 km outbound and just 5 km return; total distance 21 km): Ride north through South Kanata, then across the Queensway at the footbridge near the Kanata Town Centre. Then the Keeners will ride through Beaverbrook to the Watts Creek Trail, then loop around Wesley Clover Park back to the Queensway underpass, then south to Kichesippi Beer (2265 Robertson Rd). Estimated time of 6o minutes. The route back to Fit4Less will be along the Trans Canada Trail with the Wicker Basket Cruisers.

  • Level 3: 9:45am (The Clipless Speedsters: about 25 km outbound and 5 km return; total distance 30 km): Ride north through South Kanata, then across the Queensway at the footbridge near the Kanata Town Centre. At that point the Speedsters turn left instead of right to go through North Kanata along Knudson, Kanata Ave, Terry Fox, Herzberg, Carling, Burke to Watts Creek and then continue from there along the same route as the Average Keeners. Estimated time of 75 minutes. The route back to Fit4Less will be along the Trans Canada Trail with the Wicker Basket Cruisers.

You are of course welcome to plan your own route or to join us midway. And non-riders are welcome too. Walk, skate or roll along the TransCanada Trail or to Bells Corners or just join us to socialize and enjoy the weather. Just aim to be at Kichesippi Beer around 11am.

Here is the shortest Level 1 route taking a direct route to Bells Corners along the TransCanada Trail:

Wicker Basket Cruiser: estimate distance of 5 km and 20 minutes. This route is 90% TransCanada Trail.

Did you know that that the federal riding of Kanata-Carleton is changing? The new riding of Kanata will lose much of West Carleton and gain part of Bells Corners. Learn more here.

Here is the medium Level 2 route riding through South Kanata and looping around to Bells Corners:

Average Keener: estimated 16 km and 60 minutes. This route rides through suburban South Kanata and then Greenbelt trails that are either paved or well-maintained gravel.

And here is the longest Level 3 route, looping through North Kanata along Terry Fox Drive before heading to Bells Corners:

Clipless Speedster: estimated 25 km and 75 minutes. This route rides through suburban Kanata and then along main roads (e.g. Terry Fox Drive) followed by Greenbelt trails that are either paved or well-maintained gravel.
